Silas House

Novelist, playwright, editor, and musician Silas House is writer-in-residence at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. His novels include Clay's Quilt, A Parchment of Leaves, and The Coal Tattoo; a fourth novel, Eli the Good, is forthcoming. Two-time winner of the Kentucky Novel of the Year, House also has won the Fellowship of Southern Writers Award for Special Achievement, the Chaffin Award, and Appalachian Book of the Year, and has twice been a finalist for both the Southeast Booksellers Award and the Southern Book Critics Circle Prize. House is one of Nashville's most sought-after publicity writers, producing bios for Kris Kristofferson, Tim O'Brien, Kathy Mattea, Leann Womack, and Del McCoury. His work has been anthologized in New Stories from the South 2004: The Year's Best, A Kentucky Christmas, Of Woods and Water, River of Words, Shouts ansd Whispers, and The Kentucky Anthology, and has appeared in such magazines as The Oxford American, The Southeast Review, Bayou, Beloit Fiction Journal,The Louisville Review, and elsewhere. House is co-editing Something's Rising, a collection of oral histories about mountaintop removal mining, and is a member of Public Outcry, a group of writers and musicians who speak out against this practice.
